"An extraordinary year that culminated in an event so spectacular, it brought together families, teachers, and students, and rallied the whole community."

- Thomas Rabone, Principal, Maple Hill Middle School, Castleton, N.Y.

School + Orchestra + RIME = Concert Curriculum

School:

A school and music teacher agree to participate.

The music teacher makes the program the basis of his or her year. The students follow a curriculum in which they learn, create, collaborate, and ultimately perform with an orchestra.

+ Orchestra:

An orchestra and conductor agree to participate.

The orchestra rehearses and performs with the students, first in the school, and ultimately in its regular venue as part of its educational, family, or seasonal programming. The concert incorporates the students' original material and performances in a theatrical context.

+ RIME:

School component:

RIME provides the school with a teacher’s kit, music, curriculum units, audio discs and other supplies. MUSICORPS, RIME’s network of musicians, provides the glue that holds it all together.

Through MUSICORPS, RIME provides a composer-in-residence who nurtures original student material, and incorporates it into the score, and at least one performer-in-residence (who may be the composer or a member of the orchestra) who assists the teacher, and works with students throughout the year, helping to prepare them for their orchestral performance.

Orchestra component:

RIME provides the orchestra with a score, parts, script, and other production materials, a composer-in-residence who adapts, arranges, and delivers the score and parts, and a program director who facilitates program implementation and concert production.

Financial component:

RIME will support or seek funding for orchestras and low-resource schools that wish to participate, or assist their own fundraising efforts. Alternatively, participants with sufficient resources may choose to cover program costs themselves. It is our goal that every organization that wishes to participate has the opportunity to do so.
